Rites Of Passage
Throughout time and across cultures, human beings have turned to ritual to mark life transitions. Sacred ceremonies witnessed by community and guided by intention have helped us move consciously from one stage of life to the next. Yet in our modern world, many of us have lived without these rites of passage. We have entered adulthood without true initiation. Without ritual, our experiences are not fully integrated. Without witnessing, parts of us go unseen. Ceremony is a call to reclaim the power of ritual.
Retrospective First Bleed/Menarche Ceremony
Menarche marks the threshold of your menstruation, the initiation into your cyclical wisdom. (menarche from the Greek word men meaning month and arkhe, beginning.)
This offering is created as a pathway to reconnect with the innate intelligence of our bodies and the rhythms we carry. To tend the collective and personal wounds we absorbed in our earliest experiences of menstruation. Often shaped by our caregivers and cultures that wrapped this rite of passage in silence, guilt or disconnection, residues of which live inside our bodies.
This ceremony is a reclamation.
A remembrance of the wisdom woven into our bodies.
Ceremony is intentional, it’s a living prayer, a dialogue with our whole being and creation. In that sacred container, something shifts. something lands deep within us that words alone cannot reach. This is the power of ritual. It connects us to our wholeness, not just for ourselves, but for our ancestors, past, present and yet to come.
The way we experience our first bleed, the moment of menarche shapes how we relate to ourselves and how believe the world sees us.
If that initiation was not met with empowerment, celebration and understanding, then the full expression of our power may have never been fully switched on.
Take a moment
Pause and Reflect
What did your first bleed teach you about being a woman, or person with a cyclical body?
How has that belief quietly influenced your life, your choices, your self worth?
In this ceremony, we reclaim our power by re-enacting our rite of passage.
Ceremony is a deep calling that I am passionately committed to co-creating where collective healing can unfold.
If your body resonates with these words, if something in you feels the stir or pull, trust that knowing.
You are warmly invited to step into ceremony.
“Shame is a toxic, paralysing emotion that impacts our self-worth. Menstrual shame alienates us from our body consciousness, undermining our confidence and trust in ourselves and our healthy female physiology”
“Menstrual shame leads to body shame, body shame leads to low self esteem, low self esteem leads to wounded behaviours”
“The rites of passage of birth, menarche, childbirth and menopause serve the purpose of educating us of our value in our role and our society’s expectations of us, they give us information about how we are to behave. The way menarche and menstruation 🩸 are dealt with in our culture, our families and our communities, influences how a young woman understands what it means to be a woman, a cyclical, sexual, fertile female human being”

Post Ceremony
As with any rite of passage, this is not a single moment. What unfolds afterwards in the integration phase is just as vital and calls for our care and attention to fully embody the transformation.
Over the following 40 days, this integration will be held in prayer. You are invited to join as a prayer holder, for yourself, the participants and our wider collective
Plan to give yourself space after the ceremony, time to rest, reflect and tend to whatever may surface. Transformation moves through deep layers, offer yourself the gift of a pause.
Who is the ceremony for?
This ceremony is for:
those who currently menstruate,
and those who feel called to revisit their first bleed or menstrual cycle as part of their healing journey
“The biggest thing I got from the menarche ceremony was a total sense of who I am without attachments to any stories – strong, courageous and confident. In the months that have followed, I have felt a complete sense of freedom. Freedom to be the woman I was meant to be. I am also able to love, respect and honour my mother fully. In the past, in many situations, I would silently think to myself ‘Oh there we go, just like your mother.’ My menarche ceremony brought the spiritual aspect of cutting the umbilical cord to life. It may have physically happened 39 years ago, but I felt connected still. Only now do I feel that I am my own person entirely.

“Consciously living the changing rhythm of your menstrual cycle, and the ensuing self-awareness and cyclical knowing that you accumulate, provides the groundswell, the momentum, to unfold you organically into and through menopause”
